Is there an oven thermometer with a read-out outside the oven?
I have an old oven that has no window to see inside and doesn't tell you when it is preheated. I need a thermometer with a probe that goes inside the oven to read oven temperature (not to stick in the meat).

People did it for Years and years with out knowing "when the oven was preheated". Just give it 5-10 min, and go. There is no real need for the beeper alarm that notifies you when the oven is correctly preheated.

Can you use a probe thermometer while cooking on a pan?
I've always wondered this question, I have an oven meat-thermometer with a probe that you can safely leave inside the oven. Can you put this in meat for when you pan-sear and/or pan-cook meat as well? I figure, if it can survive a roast in the oven...why can't it do it on top of a pan? For the response who mentioned that a pan gets hotter than an oven...some roasts can be 450-500 degrees, a properly heated pan for the Leidenfrost effect is in the range of about 350 degrees.

the stovetop gets MUCH hotter than the oven, however, as long as you aren't leaving the probe in direct contact with the pan, it should be safe the actual surface of the a cast-iron pan can get up to 700 degrees.... and i don't think that ovens get that hot normally.

KitchenAid Convection Oven Superba question.?
I was baking something and set cook time for 2 hours. I was not present when oven cooking was done and beeping to take out. Now I have a square lit up with a thermometer inside it. If I press bake, "set probe temp" light up on panel. I can't seem to figure out what happened and can't turn oven on. Have pressed cancel but nothing happens except continual beep beep beep. What do I need to do?
